The 2027 Pokémon World Championships will be held at Singapore EXPO from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 August 2027, the first time Worlds comes to Singapore, according to pokemon.com’s closing ceremonies recap (30 August 2026). Players based in Singapore qualify through the 2026-27 Pokémon Asia Championship Series, not through Championship Points. Tickets and spectator details haven’t been announced yet.
For local players and fans, that means the biggest weekend in competitive Pokémon is coming to our own backyard. Here is what is confirmed so far, and what we’re still waiting on.
Pokémon Worlds 2027 dates and venue
The news came at the end of the 2026 Worlds in San Francisco, where Tsunekazu Ishihara, President and CEO of The Pokémon Company, shared it during the closing ceremonies. The recap puts it simply: “The 2027 Pokémon World Championships will make its return to Asia, visiting beautiful Singapore for the very first time. Trainers will compete and fans will celebrate at Singapore EXPO”, over the weekend of 13 to 15 August 2027.
Here are the confirmed basics:
| Event | Dates | Venue | Official page |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2027 Pokémon World Championships | Fri 13 to Sun 15 August 2027 | Singapore EXPO | pokemon.com, 30 August 2026 |
The Pokémon Company’s Asia press release (30 August 2026) says the same: “Next year will see Trainers heading to Singapore for the 2027 Pokémon World Championships at Singapore EXPO.”
The Singapore Tourism Board names a second venue. In its LinkedIn post (15 September 2026), STB says: “We’re excited to welcome the Pokémon World Championships 2027 to Singapore EXPO and the Singapore Indoor Stadium.” Pokémon hasn’t said which parts of the event happen where, so we’re treating Singapore EXPO as the confirmed venue until it does.
What Worlds is
Worlds is the once-a-year finale of the Play! Pokémon Championship Series. According to championships.pokemon.com, “Players qualify for Worlds by earning Championship Points at events throughout the Championship Series season”, although, as the next section explains, Asia works differently.
At the 2026 Worlds, champions were crowned in four games: the Pokémon Trading Card Game, the video game (VGC), Pokémon GO and Pokémon UNITE, according to the Asia press release. Play! Pokémon sets the 2027 formats, so check the official rules rather than assuming the same line-up.
Players compete in three age divisions. Under the 2027 season changes, Junior is for players born in 2015 or later, Senior for those born from 2011 to 2014, and Masters for those born in 2010 or earlier. “Pokémon GO competitions are not separated by age divisions.”
How qualifying works for players in Singapore
In most of the world, 2027 invitations go to the top players on each rating zone’s Championship Points leaderboard, by age division and game. A few events also hand out direct invites: 1st place at Regional and Special Championships, 1st to 4th place at International Championships, and the top four from the previous Worlds.
Singapore is not on that path. The championships site says: “Players in Japan, South Korea, mainland China, and the Asia-Pacific region will be awarded World Championships invitations as per their regions’ organized play and esports programs. Players from these rating zones are not eligible to earn World Championships invitations through Championship Points.”
The Pokémon Asia Championship Series
For Singapore, that regional programme is the 2026-27 Pokémon Asia Championship Series (press release, 7 August 2026). It started in September 2026 across Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand, and it “will crown the champions who will then get to represent their region in the once-a-year Pokémon World Championships”. It has two categories, TCG and VGC, and four leagues: Great Ball, Ultra Ball, Premier Ball and Master Ball.
The tournament guide explains the points. Players earn League Points, but only “their 8 highest LP earnings” count, with “the top ranking players at the end of the series earning a Worlds Invite”. Each age division has its own ranking, and totals are calculated once, after the Master Ball League.
Singapore dates announced so far
The Singapore series site lists these events so far:
| League | Date | Venue | Registration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ultra Ball League Season 1 | Sat 31 October and Sun 1 November 2026 | Singapore EXPO, Garnet Room 214 to 217 | 1 to 18 October 2026 |
| Premier Ball League, TCG (Junior, Senior, Masters) | Sat 12 December 2026 | Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre, Hall 401 and 402 | 7 August to 11 November 2026 |
Pokémon hasn’t published how many Worlds invites Singapore or the region will get. The Singapore site covers TCG and VGC only, so for Pokémon GO, check official Pokémon GO channels for how Asian players qualify.
What’s not announced yet
Several things fans keep asking about are still unconfirmed:
- Tickets and spectator entry
- The schedule for each day, and any side events
- Event merchandise
- The device policy for Worlds (“A separate device policy for the 2027 Pokémon World Championships will be announced at a later date.”)
- How many invites Singapore players will get
- The Pokémon GO qualifying path in Asia
We won’t guess at any of these. We’ll update this post when Pokémon announces more.
