The biggest returning series this fall
The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 (2 October). Maomao is back for a third season of palace mysteries, again from studio OLM. It is one of Crunchyroll’s flagship titles this season.
Black Clover Season 2 (3 October). Asta returns to TV for the first time since the original anime ended in 2021 after 170 episodes. Studio Pierrot is producing the new season.
Ranma 1/2 Season 3 (3 October). MAPPA’s remake of the Rumiko Takahashi classic continues, with 12 weekly episodes on Netflix.
Blue Box Season 2 and Aoashi Season 2 (4 October). Two sports favourites return on the same day. Blue Box Season 2 runs for 25 weekly episodes on Netflix; Aoashi Season 2 is on Crunchyroll.
Also back on 2 October: Tokyo Revengers with its Three Deities War arc (LIDENFILMS, 13 episodes) and Tougen Anki with its Nikko Kegon Falls arc.
New series and remakes to watch
Magic Knight Rayearth (7 October). A new anime adaptation of CLAMP’s 1990s fantasy classic, streaming on Crunchyroll.
Dragon Ball Super: Beerus (11 October). Toei Animation is remaking the Beerus arc with updated visuals. It gets a world premiere screening at New York Comic Con on 8 October, three days before its Japan broadcast, and Netflix releases it weekly on Saturdays from 17 October.
Psyren (October). Toshiaki Iwashiro’s Shonen Jump series finally gets an anime from studio Satelight, planned as a complete adaptation of the whole story.
Firefly Wedding (9 October) and Overgeared (27 September). Two more new titles worth sampling, the second adapted from the Korean web novel about a player in a virtual-reality game.
Netflix drops: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 and Steel Ball Run
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 lands on 20 October with all 10 episodes at once. Studio Trigger returns with CD Projekt, and the season follows a brand-new cast of characters in Night City.
